Cake is happiness! If you know the way of the cake, you know the way of happiness!”
— C.JOYBELL C.
The first time Bolaji attempted to bake a cake was in 2007, in a little bedsit in sunny Weymouth. She had invited friends over for dinner and decided to bake a cake instead of buying one from the massive ASDA down the road. They never did see the cake as it ended up in the bin.
Fast-forward 2 years, at the christening of her first daughter, her husband’s friend brought over the yummiest cake she had ever tasted. It was a red velvet cake. She couldn’t comprehend how cake could be so red and sinful; it blew her mind. And so she set about on a quest to find the origin of the cake. She found out it was from Hummingbird’s bakery, unfortunately, there wasn’t one near where she lived so she braved the oven again. This time, to her surprise, it actually tasted great. There was no turning back from there, she started offering to make birthday cakes for friends and family. After the birth of her second child, she enrolled in a cake decorating class and obtained a diploma in cake decorating.
After much encouragement, she decided to turn it into a business and named it after two of the most precious people in her life, her two girls; Sophia and Joanna.
